Welcome to the Golden Deer Studio!
After teaching Tai Chi and Qigong for over ten years, I have established this studio to reach more people with the proven health benefits of these ancient practices.
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese mind-body practice for self-defense, healing and stress reduction. As a martial arts form evolved from Qigong, it focuses on balance, agility, cognitive function and harmony.
Qigong is a 3,000-year-old Chinese practice for cultivating qi or life-force energy. It aims to balance the energy of the body to bring health, vitality and harmony. Through deep breathing, focused intention and meditative movements, it opens energy pathways and circulates qi.
Research proves the following health benefits:
• Balance—Tai Chi has been proven to be the best exercise form for balance improvement and fall prevention.
• Flexibility—Dynamic stretches enhance overall flexibility including that of the torso.
• Strength—Slow motion weight bearing movements with some balancing on one leg develop lower body strength and upper body movements are enhanced with a full range of movements which are smoothly done against a sense of resistance.
• Breathing efficiency and mindfulness—the slow, deep and regulated breathing affects your nervous system activating your parasympathetic nervous system and calms the body and mind. Research shows that the improvement of your breathing capacity directly impacts your life span.
Asthma and COPD studies show that Tai Chi and Qigong can help reduce severity of symptoms.
• Mental well-being—Studies show depression, anxiety and psychological stress have improved with consistent practice of Tai chi and Qigong.
• Cognitive function—a sharper mind and mental plasticity is connected with Tai Chi and Qigong practice because of the combination of stress reduction, learning new movement patterns and attention to developing focus.
• Arthritis—the Arthritis Foundation supports the regular practice of Tai Chi and Qigong as a safe an effective treatment for relieving joint discomfort, slowing the progression of the disease and less pain and stiffness.
• Heart health—Tai Chi and Qigong positively impact cardiovascular risk factors for blood pressure, inflammation, cholesterol levels and the metabolism of blood sugars.
• Immunity and inflammation—Studies show an improvement in immunity and a decrease in inflammation with a 12-week program of practice. Tai Chi has been recommended as a preventative health intervention for strengthening the immune system and assisting with overall health and wellness.
• Bone density—BMD research on post-menopausal women practicing over 6 months show positive results.
• Sleep—By improving breathing, reducing stress and pain, Tai chi and Qigong have been shown to be a natural and safe way to enhance sleep.
